YDance's Horizons Inclusive Dance Group

YDance, a charity based in Glasgow, received a £2,000 organisational grant from Trefoil in May 2024. Trefoil’s grant enabled YDance’s Horizons Inclusive Dance Group to travel to Inverness and take part in Expanding Horizons. This unique day-long event was open to young people with additional support needs, including ADHD and Autism, to dance and broaden their horizons.

The dance group also allowed two young adults with cognitive and learning difficulties to develop their skills by teaching the young people taking part in the event. The participants of Horizons rarely get the chance to experience arts and cultural events. Taking part in the event allowed them to gain independence by learning new skills and travelling to a different part of the country; meeting and collaborating with new people along the way.

Around 30 young people with additional support needs took part in the day. Participants took classes with specialist dance tutors who introduced them to new ways of working and helped them create a flash mob!

Those young people who took part in the day improved their communication and social skills. One participant said:

“One of my favourite parts of the Horizons is meeting new friends... best of all, we can go to Inverness!”

Funding from Trefoil allowed YDance to cover the costs of attending and organsising this day of activities. If your organisation supports children and young people in Scotland under 25 years old with additional support needs, you can apply for an organisation grant.
