A Season of Sailing with Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust

In September 2021, Trefoil awarded an organisational grant to Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust. This funding was awarded to purchase sailing equipment to improve accessibility. Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust was founded with the main objective to make sailing accessible to all and has been pursuing this aim for a decade.

Aberdeenshire Sailing Trust offer disability individual and group sessions as well as coordinate a disability club during the sailing season for members to participate in many activities from lessons to race days. The organisation have a boat suitable for use by persons with disabilities but require further equipment to enable people with paralysis to use the boat.

One of the pieces of equipment purchased includes a supportive hard seat to assist young sailors, like Samuel, to be in a better position to enjoy sailing and be race ready for club sailing races.

Additionally, the funds have paid for a sling to use with the marina hoist so as not to be limited to time constraints created from borrowing a sling.

Trefoil are very pleased to know that the grant has contributed towards improving availability for time spent on the water and building the confidence of enthusiastic and adventurous young people to develop their sailing skills and consider themselves as sailors.
