Naeema's Trike

In October 2021, Trefoil awarded Naeema a grant of £872 for the purchase of a specialised trike. Naeema is 14 years-old and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth. She attends a specialist school and often borrowed her friend’s trike but wished her own in order to ride to school, giving her an increased sense of independence.

The trike arrived in late December and since then, Naeema has gone out cycling at least once a day. The trike has had a real positive impact on the whole family. Naeema has 3 siblings and they can now all go out cycling together, which provides a fun bonding activity for all the family to get involved with. Naeema’s physio has also stressed the benefits of regular cycling, stating that it will help her overall fitness levels, as well as relaxing her muscles.

Naeema’s Trike

In addition to the physical impact, there is also a positive impact on Naeema’s mental health. Since receiving her trike, Naeema’s spirits have remained high, and she is both motivated and determined to get out cycling in all weathers. Naeema’s family commented that they are “pleased to see her always happy whenever she goes out for a ride”

It is brilliant to see the positive impact such a piece of equipment can bring, not just to Naeema but, to the whole family. All at Trefoil are pleased to have been able to support Naeema’s cycling dream.
