Team Jak Foundation

In September 2019 Trefoil award the Team Jak Foundation a grant of £5,000 towards their music therapy programme. In 2015 Team Jak was founded in memory of Jak Trueman who courageously raised almost £100,000 whilst battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer: Gamma Delta T-Cell Lymphoma. Team Jak have taken up the commission set by Jak, continuing the work he started to provide support for other young people facing a battle with cancer.

Today, Team Jak provide an array of support services to young cancer sufferers and their families across the breadth of Scotland including gift packages, tutoring support, music therapy, counselling, entertainment, social events and bespoke support groups for families and those sadly bereaved of a child from cancer.

Activities are run out of Jak’s Den in Livingston and pop-up Den’s across Scotland, providing a safe and fun space for young people, easing their journey.

Recently, Trefoil were delighted to receive an update on the work of Team Jak in the last year. Despite the challenges of providing services to vulnerable children during the Covid-19 pandemic, Team Jak have managed to pivot much of their support online. This included their music therapy sessions. Through the access to therapy in a period of intense strain and isolation, children have been able to express themselves through their music, build relationships with others and grow in confidence.

Trefoil would like to thank Team Jak for their relentless work and take time to say just how proud we are of their work with young people and the resilience they have shown through the pandemic.
